Another online meeting of Vice President Iliana Yotova’s initiative “Popularity does not fall where knowledge lives” has become a platform for creating contacts and exchanging ideas. The forum aims to promote connections between different professional circles at home and abroad. “We miss knowing you. We want the Bulgarian society to know you, to work together for a better image of Bulgaria in the world,” Iliana Yotova pointed out. She emphasized that it is no coincidence that the meeting is being held on the eve of the Day of People’s Awakeners – “we are looking for modern awakeners who enrich us with their knowledge and achievements”.

Ivan Tashev – managing partner at Microsoft and co-chairman of the Center for Bulgarian Culture in Seattle in the state of Washington, Nikolay Kolev – programmer, chairman of the Bulgarian Church Municipality “Sveta Zlata Maglenska” and superintendent of the Bulgarian Sunday School in the city of Irvine shared their experience and ideas. State of California, and Senior Network Data Architect Kiril Bozhilov of the Toronto Energy Cluster. From Bulgaria, Ognyan Trayanov – founder and owner of one of the largest Bulgarian software companies and vice-chairman of the Bulgarian Association for Information Technologies, and Prof. Svetozar Margenov from the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, head of the Center for excellence in informatics and information and communication technologies.

The participants of the meeting presented highlights of their activities and their latest achievements. There was a general opinion about the need to strengthen the partnership between this professional community among Bulgarians abroad and Bulgarians at home. It was stated that the Bulgarians who are engaged in science in the field of computer technologies are an unused resource. At the meeting, it was pointed out that Bulgaria should look for the added value, talent and great potential of its personnel in information and communication technologies, and not for their labor to go to the outsourcing industry. Our country has many high-quality experts in this field, but lacks entrepreneurial skills. In the conversation, it was pointed out that there is no innovation market in Bulgaria, therefore the exchange of good examples and practices is useful. Vice President Yotova emphasized that the Recovery and Sustainability Plan will provide opportunities for development in this area and for building start-up companies.

In addition to proven experts in their field, the participants in the meeting from abroad are also dedicated to the activities of the Bulgarian community, aimed at preserving and spreading the Bulgarian language, culture and spirit. Learning the Bulgarian language from an early age and education are among their priorities.
