The Vice-President of the Republic, Mr. Tiémoko Meyliet KONÉ, representing the Head of State, HE Alassane OUATTARA, at the 79th Ordinary Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), in New York (USA), took part , this Sunday, September 22, 2024, at the opening ceremony of “Gathering for the Future”.

This conference, which will meet 48 hours before the solemn opening of the General Debate of the UN General Assembly, scheduled for September 24, 2024, is a summit that has been prepared for three years, with a view to a new consensus between -create a national and decide together how to overcome current and future challenges, improve the present and preserve the future.

The opening ceremony of the “Gathering of the Future” was marked, from the beginning, by the adoption of the “Contract for the Future” through which the States undertake to reaffirm the Charter of the United Nations, in order to to revitalize the sector, to accelerate the implementation of existing commitments in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to agree on solutions to new challenges, and to reverse the declining confidence within the world body back

In his speech after the adoption of the agreement, the President of the 79th Ordinary Session of the UN General Assembly, called to make international institutions more just, more legitimate and more effective on the basis of the values ​​of the United Nations Charter, against are new, unprecedented challenges facing the world today and which, according to him, require urgent action.

The Secretary General of the UN, Mr. Antonio GUTERRES, said in the same way, that the adoption of the “Agreement for the Future” opens the door to concrete action to make international institutions fairer, more legitimate and more effective based on the values ​​of the United Nations Charter, against new challenges.

He lamented that the global architecture and conflict resolution tools reflect the past, thus justifying the need to restore multilateralism so that it does not fall into the abyss. To support his point, he recalled that when the UN was created, it had only 51 members, but today it has 193. it is not reformed.

On the economic level, Mr. Antonio GUTERRES explained that the current international architecture no longer reflects the world economy and can no longer solve the problems of sustainable development, because when it was applied at the end of the Second World War. War, many of today’s developing countries were still colonies.
