The Venice Film Festival begins / Article / LSM.lv

On the evening of September 1, the Italian director Andrea Segre’s documentary story “Molecule” about Venice during the quarantine regime will be premiered in Venice. The film will premiere at the same time as the unofficial opening screening of the 77th Venice Film Festival.

But the official opening of the Venice Biennale Film Festival is scheduled for September 2. Until September 12, cinema-lovers will have the opportunity to watch films from the Venice Film Festival program – more than 60 films.

18 of them will be judged by the festival jury to present the “Golden Lion” for the best film at the official award ceremony on September 12.

Unfortunately, the Covid-19 pandemic has made its adjustments during the Venice Film Festival. This year, it will not be so dazzlingly bright, because a number of Hollywood celebrities will not come, but the films will be shown in accordance with social distance, and people must wear face masks at all festival venues.

It will be the first global cultural forum since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. The festival’s director, Alberto Barbera, expressed hope that it would serve as a model for other organizers of similar events.

“We are aware of our responsibilities because we are the first. The Venice Festival will be a test for everyone and a kind of laboratory. We worked hard to develop a strong security plan and ensure the safety of all visitors by the end of the event. If everything goes as planned, everyone will be able to learn from our experience, ”said Barbera.

This year, several Hollywood celebrities will not come to the festival. At all venues, visitors will be required to wear face masks and comply with social exclusion rules.

The opening and closing parties of the festival have been canceled, but several actors and directors will present their films in video conferences. However, this does not diminish the interest of cinema gourmets, as many well-known filmmakers will be widely represented at the event.

This year, the official program of the film festival includes 63 films, and 18 of them will apply for the main prize of the festival – the “Golden Lion”.

Already on Tuesday, the audience could watch the documentary film “Moleckula” by the Italian director Andreas Segres, in which Venice was captured during the quarantine regime. The festival jury will be chaired by the well-known actress Cate Blanchett, and his event was called a provocative and inspiring film festival.
