The vast majority of parents would have their child vaccinated against corona

And apparently almost 60 percent of those questioned are happy with this. However, 34 percent of the respondents think that it makes no sense to vaccinate children. The reason? They hardly get sick from the corona virus and the chance is small (more) that they will transmit it.

Vulnerable Parent

According to the Dutch government, children from the age of 12 are not yet eligible for a vaccination. The vaccines have not yet been tested on the young target group. According to epidemiologist Patricia Bruijning, this would offer a solution for vulnerable families.

“There are families who have been at home for a year, even if a vulnerable parent has been vaccinated. In that case it is better to vaccinate the whole family, so that the children can go outside without fear and see their friends again, ”says Bruijning.

Vulnerable children

Vulnerable sixteen and seventeen-year-olds are already vaccinated, as are children with Down’s syndrome. According to Bruijning, the government should expand that. “There are also young children with asthma and other vulnerable children who are more susceptible to corona. They should also get an injection. ”

“They are still researching it in Europe and there is an application from Pfizer. If there are hopeful results, then they too can get their turn sooner. ”
