SRF video referee Sven Ivanić takes aim at athletes, coaches and sports associations. This week he adds important categories to the Sports Awards, tries to find out what the difference is between football and martial arts and uncovers a conspiracy in skiing.
In the Super League and Bundesliga there is the Video Assistant Referee (VAR). His job: support the referee on the pitch. There is also a VAR in the video control room at SRF Sport. The big difference: SRF video referee Sven Ivanic decides neither on offside nor handball. His specialty is the strange, funny and hotly debated highlights – or fails – outside of the actual sporting events.
In “The VAR’s” Sven Ivanic takes aim at athletes, coaches and sports associations. He makes his decisions as an SRF video referee with a wink and is guaranteed to be controversial. The topics range from the Swiss national football team to the National League in ice hockey, the Ski World Cup and the Four Hills Tournament to wrestling.

Sven Ivanic is a lawyer and stand-up comedian. The 32-year-old from Zurich was nominated for the Swiss Comedy Awards 2019 with his first stage program “JUSländer”. He has already presented his skills to the SRF audience on various occasions, including in the casting show “Stadt Land Talent”, in the “Comedy Talent Show” and on the “SRF 3 Comedy Talent Stage”.
