GNPower Mariveles Energy Center Ltd. Co. (GMEC) has used P167.4m ($3.44m) worth of cement credits to finance 353 infrastructure projects in Bataan, according to a statement by the company. The project comes under GMEC’s Total Ash Management Program (TAMP) initiative whereby the company collects and sells ash generated from the combustion of coal, leveraging the profits to benefit the local community. The scheme collected ash from Bataan and utilised the funds for various projects, including farm-to-market roads, multipurpose halls, livelihood centres, community offices and service-oriented buildings, among others. This is part of the company’s CSR Progress flagship program. Since August 2012, when the partnership was formalized, the initiative has funded the building of school structures, daycare centers and hospitals, as well as constructions intended to improve the environment and public safety. The latest beneficiaries include the Morong District Hospital and Bataan Peninsula State University in Morong, Bataan. The project supplied P238,140 ($4,900) worth of cement bags for the construction of Bataan Peninsula State University Phase 1 and P5.407m ($111,000) worth of cement bags for the building of Morong District Hospital.
