For their part, Serbia defeated Japan, silver medalist at the Olympics.
Triple world champion, the United States beat Puerto Rico 106-42 on Matchday 2 in Group A, adding a new win after their successful debut against Belgium.
The Americans shot 54% from the field, scoring well distributed with six double-digit players: Shakira Austin (19), Kahleah Copper (18), Brionna Jones (13), Jewell Loyd (12), Breanna Stewart (11) and Alyssa Thomas (11)
It was the 24th consecutive victory for the United States women’s basketball team in a World Cup, a streak that began in 2010.
Puerto Rico had won their first match of the tournament, against weak Bosnia and Herzegovina 82-58.
For their part, Serbia defeated Japan 69-64, after resisting the comeback of the Asian champions after starting the match with an advantage of 24-9.
