“Any attack by Iran, of whatever form, against the United States will be met with an attack on Iran that will be 1,000 times bigger!” Trump tweeted after reports of alleged Iranian plans to assassinate the US ambassador to South Africa Al Arabiya, Tuesday (15/9/2020).
A US intelligence report said Iran planned the assassination of the American Ambassador to South Africa (South Africa) in retaliation for the death of Major General Qassem Soleimani.
The intelligence report was unveiled by Politico on Sunday (13/9/2020), citing American officials who saw the report. (Also read: Revenge for Soleimani, Iran is called to want to kill the US Ambassador to South Africa)
But Iran flatly denied the reports. Tehran has described the accusations as part of the Donald Trump administration’s counter-intelligence campaign against Iran and has denounced the Politico report as tailored, biased and purposeful.
“We advise American officials to stop using outdated and outdated methods for anti-Iran propaganda in the international arena,” said Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzade. (Also read: Accused of Wanting to Kill the US Ambassador to South Africa, Iran: That’s Slander!)
