The US will provide 20 billion dollars for a loan to Ukraine in the G7

The United States will provide $20 billion for a G7 credit package for Ukraine and is considering new sanctions to get Russia into arms, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said Tuesday.

“We are very close to finalizing the part of the United States of this $ 50 billion credit package,” said the director at a press conference, on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the IMF and the World Bank in Washington.

“What I want to emphasize is that the American taxpayer is not the source of funding for these credits,” Yellen said, as the United States is in the middle of an election campaign.

This credit includes money from interest on frozen Russian assets, and Yellen told reporters that “Russia is paying for this support” to its enemy.

“We hope we can put in $20 billion of the $50 billion G7 package,” Yellen said.

The money should be available this year.

The United States could also announce “strong new sanctions” next week against Russia for its war with Ukraine, Yellen said. These are sanctions against “those who facilitate (the operation of) the Kremlin’s war machine, including intermediaries in third countries,” he said.
