Washington. The United States demanded Israel take steps within a month to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza or face possible restrictions on military aid, in the strongest warning since the war against Hamas began a year ago.
The US Secretaries of State, Antony Blinken, and of Defense, Lloyd Austin, wrote a letter to the Israeli authorities on Sunday demanding measures to address the deteriorating situation in the Palestinian enclave and said that these changes must be made when there is a new offensive in northern Gaza, Washington officials commented yesterday.
The letter, which reaffirms US policy on humanitarian aid and arms transfers, was sent amid deteriorating conditions in northern Gaza and reports that Israel bombed tents in the courtyard of a hospital in central Gaza.
A senior defense official stated that Blinken and Austin sent the letter to their Israeli counterparts upon seeing the recent decline in aid reaching the enclave.
For Israel to continue receiving foreign military financing, the level of aid reaching Gaza must increase to at least 350 trucks a day, it must institute additional humanitarian pauses and provide greater security to humanitarian settlements, Austin and Blinken detailed. For this they gave a period of 30 days.
State Department spokesman Matthew Miller reiterated that the White House opposes
