As the agency’s White House correspondent said, US President Joe Biden’s administration will send 31 M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine as part of a deal worth 400 million dollars.
According to reports, Germany plans to deliver 14 “Leopard 2A6” heavy tanks to Ukraine from the Bundeswehr’s stocks, government representative Steffen Höbestreit said on Wednesday.
Berlin has also allowed other countries armed with German-made Leopard heavy tanks to hand them over to Ukraine, according to his statement.
The German publication “Spiegel” reports that European countries want to create two tank battalions for Ukraine as soon as possible, each of which will have 40 tanks.
The US is to equip another battalion with Abrams battle tanks.
“Leopard 2A6” tanks from Germany will enter the battalion, in which Finland, Spain and the Netherlands will probably participate. Poland and Norway are equipping the second battalion with Leopard 2A4 tanks, Spiegel writes.
The first tanks from Germany could arrive in Ukraine in about three months, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said.
