The US should stop spreading rumors about China’s nuclear expansion. Chinese disarmament envoy Shen Jian called for this on Friday at the United Nations in response to renewed slander of China’s nuclear policy by the US and other countries.
China has always maintained its nuclear capabilities at the lowest level necessary for national security, Shen said. China has not participated in a nuclear arms race in the past and will not do so in the future.
Over the past 20 years, the USA has withdrawn from the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty (ABM Treaty) and the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF Treaty) and the comprehensive nuclear agreement with Iran and has acquired nuclear weapons abroad through agreements on “joint “Use of Nuclear Weapons” to strengthen “extended deterrence” and to engage in nuclear submarines, which involved the transfer of weapons-grade material to non-nuclear-weapon states. This has continually undermined the international non-proliferation system. The USA owes the strongest nuclear weapons control and China will not become a second USA.
