(EFE).- The US Coast Guard Service (SGC) returned 25 rafters this Wednesday and with this new group there are already more than 3,911 irregular migrants returned to the island from different countries in the region in 2023, according to the Ministry of Interior.

This last group -22 men and 3 women- had participated in an illegal exit from the Island and was later intercepted at sea by the US Coast Guard.

The majority are residents of the provinces of Matanzas and Holguín and their delivery to the Cuban authorities took place in the port of Orozco, in the Artemisa province, the Cuban authorities specified.

In addition, they indicated that two of the deported Cubans “were on probation for compliance with criminal sanctions, at the time of illegally leaving the country and they will be made available to the corresponding courts for the revocation of said benefit.”

Cuba and the US have a bilateral agreement so that all migrants who arrive by sea are returned to the island.

The majority are residents of the provinces of Matanzas and Holguín and their handover to the Cuban authorities took place in the port of Orozco.

In addition, both countries agreed last November to resume deportation flights for “inadmissible” migrants held at the border with Mexico.

So far in 2023, Cuba has also received repatriated migrants from the Bahamas, the Dominican Republic and Mexico.

More than 7,200 irregular migrants from Cuba entered Honduras this year

On the other hand, more than 110,000 migrants have entered Honduras this year, almost triple the number that entered the country in the same period of 2022, with the idea of ​​reaching the United States in search of better conditions or fleeing violence. experts on the subject alerted this Wednesday.

From January 1 to June 4, a total of 110,805 mobile migrants had entered Honduras, which is 69,337 more people (167.2%) than the 41,468 who entered in the same period of 2022, according to figures. officers.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has followed “very closely” the increase in migrants in transit through the Central American country since 2022, the organization’s head of mission for Honduras and El Salvador, Nicola Graviano, told EFE.

From January 1 to June 4, a total of 110,805 migrants in mobility had entered Honduras, which is 69,337 more people than the 41,468 who entered in the same period of 2022.

He stressed that the IOM works “jointly and in coordination” with the Government of Honduras, civil society and the Humanitarian Network, which leads the UN System and the Secretary of State in the Offices of National Risk and Contingency Management, in the attention of migrants in mobility.

The IOM has supported Honduras in setting up shelters and rest areas for migrants, and strengthening the capacities of personnel who care for these people in managing temporary accommodation, Graviano said.

Migrants from Venezuela are the largest group that has entered Honduras with 39,189, followed by Haiti (16,619), Ecuador (16,031), Cuba (7,236), China (3,740), Uzbekistan (2,928), Colombia (2,736), India ( 2,462), Senegal (1,879), Angola (1,829), Ghana (1,300), Brazil (1,286) and Chile (1,055), specified the National Institute of Migration.

The rest of the migrants come from more than a dozen countries around the world, including Asia and Africa.
