New York State continues as the worst hit in the country by the pandemic with 44,466 deaths, followed by California (43,247), Texas (38,891), Florida (27,457), Pennsylvania (22,208), New Jersey (21,886) and Illinois (21,603) ).

The provisional death toll -459,030- far exceeds the lower limit of the initial estimates of the White House, which projected in the best of cases between 100,000 and 240,000 deaths due to the pandemic.

The new president of the United States, Joe Biden, has predicted that in February there will be more than half a million deaths and that in total more than 600,000 will die.

For its part, the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluations (IHME) of the University of Washington, whose models for predicting the evolution of the pandemic are often set by the White House, estimates that by June 1 some will have died. 630,000. EFE
