Tragedy of the Halloween party in the neighborhood Itaewon, Seoul, South Korea killed 151 people. Three United States (US) soldiers stationed in the region shared their stories of survivors of the tragedy.
Reported AFPon Sunday (10/30/2022) three US soldiers claimed to be part of a crowd descending a steep narrow alley in the district, but managed to escape to the side area.
“But right after they managed to jump out of the crowd, it started happening: everyone fell on top of each other like a domino,” Jarmil Taylor, 40, told AFP. AFP.
The people at the top of the alley tried to force their way through, even though the streets were full. Then people started falling.
“There are people above people – they are layers of people. They don’t have enough people there to help them all at once,” Taylor said.
“The people in the heap were panicking, which made the situation worse. There were noises everywhere that made it impossible: the screams of the people just drowned out all the voices,” he added.
He and his friends will try to pull the victim out of the pressure and take him to a safe place so that rescuers can provide rescue breathing.
“We picked a lot of people and took them to the nearest club since they finally opened. The club floor was full of people lying on the ground.”
