The United States is deeply concerned about the crisis in the management of Naftogaz of Ukraine

Washington calls for intensified efforts to resolve the issue and achieve a rational management system in Naftogaz.

The White House is concerned about personnel reshuffles at NAK Naftogaz-Ukraine, including the recent dismissal of three members of the supervisory board. About this on Thursday, September 9 stated State Department spokesman Ned Price at the briefing.

“We are deeply concerned about the ongoing crisis in the leadership of Naftogaz, including the resignation of independent board members,” Price said.

He noted that the United States understands that Ukraine “is making efforts to find a solution that would comply with the principles of corporate governance stipulated by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and would ensure sound management of Naftogaz.”

He also called for the immediate advancement of these efforts.

“We welcome the active involvement of the Ukrainian government in the process of positively resolving this issue,” Price said.

The Ukrainian government received letters of resignation on the eve of all three independent members of the supervisory board of Naftogaz: Claire Spottiswood (Great Britain), Bruno Lescois (France) and Ludo van der Heyden (Belgium). They believe that the appointment of Yuri Vitrenko as head of the board of Naftogaz and his subsequent actions have sharply worsened relations with the supervisory board and the board, and also called into question the future of the company and its financial condition.

Recall that in April, the head of Naftogaz instead of dismissed Andrey Kobolev became Yuri Vitrenko… The reason for the personnel reshuffle was the company’s losses in 2020 in the amount of UAH 19 billion.

The members of the Supervisory Board were against this decision. Then the Cabinet of Ministers removed them. Later, the suspended members of the supervisory board were reinstated for up to six months.

The independent members of this body were outraged by such actions of the Cabinet and announced their resignation, but the government managed to settle the conflict with promises of a competition for the head of the NAC.

We add, Denis Shmygal announced competition for four members of the supervisory board of Naftogaz… The members of the Supervisory Council must elect a new head of the NAC board by May 1, 2022.
