Through a press release published by the United States embassy on its social network X, the North American government highlighted Ecuador’s fight against organized crime and the fight against corruption and its policy “against impunity.”
He also specified that he finds notable improvements in the area of security and said it is “a safer country but there is still much to do.”
He highlighted the fact that former Foreign Minister Carlos Pólit is sentenced in the United States after being found guilty of money laundering.
“True justice takes time and requires determination,” the embassy stressed. “We reaffirm our commitment to Ecuador to bring criminals to justice.”
The statement also highlighted the importance of cooperation between both countries and concluded that the ruling (against Pólit) “establishes that no public official assumes that he is above our laws.”
