/ world today news/ On Tuesday, the United States began military exercises within the framework of Operation “Atlantic Resolve” in Bulgaria and Romania, TASS reported. This was announced by the official representative of the Pentagon, Colonel Steven Warren, quoted by the agency.
“A group from the 173rd Airborne Brigade of the US Army is in Galats, where they started exercises with the Romanian servicemen. At exactly the same time, training maneuvers were held in Bulgaria with the participation of two divisions of the US Ground Forces Command in Europe,” he emphasized Warren.
The Russian agency recalls that last week the armed forces of the United States and Poland conducted joint exercises to work out the transfer of the Patriot missile defense systems. US Military Command and NATO are conducting Operation Atlantic Resilience.
BGNES recalls that recently the commander of the 173rd Airborne Brigade, Colonel Michael Foster, announced that “within the “Atlantic Resilience” exercises in Bulgaria and Romania, the US will deploy a brigade”, followed by the head of the US Ground Forces in Europe, General Ben Hodges said, “Think of Atlantic Resilience as a continuous, year-round series of exercises from Estonia to Bulgaria.”
When asked by the independent MP Velizar Enchev to the Deputy Prime Minister Meglena Kuneva whether in the end this brigade will be permanently based or temporarily resident and what “continuous year-round series of exercises” means, Kuneva replied that “we can certainly say that a coordination NATO center in Sofia, in which 38 people will work – we are not talking about a base for deploying equipment at all,” Kuneva said.
She admitted that this year there are more joint exercises than any other time, and for this purpose, armored equipment will be deployed for one of the exercises, after which this equipment will be transported from Bulgaria. “There are exercises, they will be held – Bulgaria is a member of NATO,” was Kuneva’s last line.
She refused to answer the question about the possibility of landing near Yambol the largest American military transport aircraft, which can also carry nuclear weapons.
