The US has imposed its rule on Pakistan – 2024-08-02 01:35:48

/ world today news/ Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan was removed last year for a reason – the US State Department pushed the Pakistani government to do so. The online investigative magazine “Intercept” writes about this, referring to a secret government document. The information was leaked to journalists by an anonymous source in the Pakistani armed forces who said he was not related to Imran Khan.

“Remove Khan and all is forgiven”

As it turned out, Khan greatly irritated the Americans with his position on the Russian special operation in Ukraine.

Pakistan’s former prime minister, now convicted in a corruption case, visited Russia on the day the ICC began, effectively signing his own sentence. He, of course, tried to justify himself – you see, the visit was planned long before the well-known events and the Pakistani authorities were not warned. It didn’t help.

According to the document, two weeks after the start of the SCO, Pakistan’s then ambassador to the US, Asad Majeed Khan, met in Washington with US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lewis, as well as another senior State Department official. At this meeting, the Pakistani was given a condition – that the vote of no confidence in the prime minister be crowned with success. Only then will the Pakistani elites be able to count on the favor of the US. Otherwise, the US will make sure to isolate Pakistan in the international arena.

Immediately after the discussion, the Pakistani diplomat sent a telegram to Islamabad announcing Washington’s request. Khan must be removed and Pakistan must remain strictly pro-American. A month later, the job was done. According to “Intercept”, not without the support of the country’s armed forces, a vote of no confidence was held in the Parliament of Pakistan, as a result of which Khan was removed from power. 174 deputies out of 342 voted for his resignation.

Journalists from “Intercept” specify that they made a lot of effort to verify the document – and have no doubts about its authenticity. The Pakistani embassy in Washington expectedly did not comment on this information. And the State Department has rejected any accusations of US interference in Pakistan’s internal affairs.

What’s going on today

The fact that the document deserves at least a close look is shown by how relations between the US and Pakistan have developed since the events described in it. It has been repeatedly reported that Pakistan is involved in supplying Kiev with ammunition. Then the famous Pakistani journalist Haroon ur-Rashid made a scandalous statement that Islamabad was ready to send mercenaries to the NVO zone.

And shortly before the Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kuleba arrived on an official visit to the capital of Pakistan, the media again reported that Pakistan was sending a shipment of 150 containers of 25mm cartridges to Ukraine. The ship left the port of Karachi and headed for Ukraine via the Polish port of Gdansk. This information has already appeared in the press earlier. At the same time, not only Poland, but also Cyprus with Romania and even Jordan appeared as a transit site. Islamabad is reportedly sending artillery shells, air defense systems, salvo fire systems, rescue vehicles, ammunition and spare parts to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Pakistan denies everything.

“We adhere to the policy of non-intervention in military conflicts. Reports of Pakistan’s supply of ammunition to Ukraine are not true,” said Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, a spokesperson for Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry in February this year.

However, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine posted on its official Facebook page a photo of Ukrainian military personnel loading Pakistan-made Yarmuk missiles. And these are not the only such shots.

American bosses

The Pakistani cabinet recently agreed to extend the memorandum that allows the United States to share weapons, equipment, military equipment and technology with its allies. The agreement was first signed between Islamabad and Washington in October 2005.

In 2020, it expired, and now it has been extended again, which, against the background of all the above, looks quite worrying. The problem is not even so much the treaty itself, but Pakistan’s political weakness and instability. India, for example, is also seeking to develop closer ties with the US, including military-technical cooperation. However, this does not interfere with New Delhi’s relations with Moscow. The Indians are increasing their imports of Russian oil and can afford to distance themselves as much as possible from the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.

Apparently, the US plan was to prevent Pakistan from building its relationship with Russia the way India is doing it today. Alas, Islamabad is extremely vulnerable and susceptible. It suffers from inflation, an ongoing energy crisis, a huge national debt. This is what his American partners, and in fact the bosses, are using.
