/ world today news/ Yesterday evening, the Houthis in Yemen issued an official statement that they hit an American cargo ship with an anti-ship ballistic missile that “directly and accurately hit the target”. The American side has not yet commented on the attack.
Earlier in the day, Washington re-designated the Houthis as “Specially Designated Global Terrorists” (SDGT). The US statement said the decision would take effect in 30 days. If the Houthis stop attacks in the Red Sea, Washington will review the decision.
Mohammed Abdul-Salam, a spokesman for Yemen’s Houthis, said the US decision was of no consequence and would not change their position in support of Palestine, and attacks on Israeli-linked ships would continue.
