The US Food and Drug Administration Reveals Two Side Effects of the Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 Vaccine

Suara.com – In February 2021, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued emergency approval for the COVID-19 vaccine a single dose developed by Johnson & Johnson subsidiary Janssen Biotech.

Like the two mRNA vaccines that were approved in December 2020, the J&J vaccine is claimed to have mild side effects that can be managed, namely by rest or with over-the-counter pain relievers.

Launching from Healthline, there were fewer cases of allergic reactions to the use of the J&J vaccine, compared to the Moderna-NIAID and Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines.

Although the J&J vaccine reported in February, two clinical trial participants experienced severe allergic reactions after being vaccinated.

Before the FDA issued an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for J&J vaccines, scientists had already reviewed phase 3 clinical trials.

Dr. Bruce Y. Lee, Public Health Computational and Operations Research, said the side effects of the J&J vaccine fall into two main categories.

“The first is from the reaction at the injection site. Usually pain, redness of the skin, or swelling at the injection site. And secondly, there are systemic side effects of symptoms, such as flu fatigue, muscle pain, nausea, and possibly fever,” he said.

Data from clinical trials show that about half of the people who receive the vaccine experience a reaction. However, pain at the injection site was the most commonly reported occurrence.

In addition, the after-effects of J&J vaccination include pain and redness that can last for two days or even swell for three days.

The duration of the side effects of this vaccination varies, but less than two percent of people experience side effects that last more than seven days.
