The United States will quadruple the number of refugees it could receive this year. Earlier, President Joe Biden had been criticized for wanting to keep the historically low number of refugees admitted to 15,000 a year.
The number of refugees that can be admitted to the United States was determined by the previous administration, Donald Trump. The former owner of the White House had strongly opposed immigration. Last month, the Baiden administration announced that it would keep the number of refugees admitted low, but after earning criticism from allies and Democrats, the White House rejected the idea.
The current US administration promises that up to 125,000 refugees will be admitted next year. In his candidacy for the presidency, Biden had promised to end Trump’s cultivated stance against immigrants and refugees.
