The measure targets companies perceived to be a threat to US national security and affects the sale of new products on US soil by banning them from trade. Products that have already received a license from the US telecommunications watchdog FCC will remain permitted for the time being, although the regulator is also considering a review of existing licenses.
The ban covers Huawei in ZTEand so on Dahua in hikvision (providing video surveillance equipment), and on Hytera (specialized in radio equipment). “The new rules are an important part of efforts to protect the American public from national security threats posed by this telecommunications equipment,” said the FCC’s Jessica Rosenworcel.
