The US arrests 23 alleged members of the CJNG

Houston. The US authorities announced this Monday the arrest of 23 people linked to the Mexican Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG), accused of trafficking drugs in their territory and laundering money.

The detainees face charges for alleged trafficking of cocaine, fentanyl, heroin and methamphetamine in the areas of Houston and Galveston, Texas, southern United States, but also to other cities in the country, from December 2018 to April 2022, according to a statement. of the Department of Justice.

“The indictment alleges that they all operated under the general control of the Jalisco Nueva Generación cartel (CJNG),” the statement added.

“The leader of one of these groups, Roque Zamudio-Mendoza, 52, of Mexico, was the main source of drugs smuggled into the United States, according to the charges,” the Justice Department detailed.

“Countless American lives have been lost to the Jalisco and Sinaloa cartels,” said US Attorney General Merrick Garland. “For the past three years, the Department of Justice has focused on these cartels, and with these arrests of dozens of associates of the Jalisco cartel we are taking another step in our fight to dismantle these deadly organizations,” he added.

In addition to the 23 detainees, there are 18 others involved with arrest warrants, of which two have died and 16 have not yet been located, among them Zamudio-Mendoza, the US Attorney General for the Southern District of Texas detailed in a statement. Alamdar S. Hamdani.

The so-called “Operation Rainmaker” took 63 months and involved different US agencies.
