The United States, along with partners in the G7, is preparing a new massive package of sanctions, which is planned to be announced on the anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
This was during a telephone briefing with reporters, said US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland, reports the correspondent “European truth“.
“I think that closer to the 24th you will see a new large package of sanctions from both the United States and all our partners in the G7. These sanctions will expand and deepen the previously introduced restrictions in certain categories, related, in particular, to restricting the flow of technology and equipment for the Russian defense industry, etc.,” Nuland said.
In addition, individual punishments are being prepared for those who are involved or make direct efforts in support of the war against Ukraine.
Nuland added that sanctions could also be announced against other countries that help the Russian Federation to circumvent the previously imposed restrictions in various ways. We are talking, in particular, about schemes for deliveries to Russia from third countries of laptops, refrigerators, and other household appliances with electronic components that can be used for the military machine of the Russian Federation.
“We are also going to expand our export controls to include countries that help Russia. We have publicly talked about Iran, North Korea, China. But there are also other countries that are used to circumvent sanctions,” she added.
As a reminder, the European Commission abandoned plans to impose sanctions on the Russian nuclear sector or its representatives in the next round of sanctions.
