Representatives of the US, EU and UK called on the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to stop exporting critical goods to Russia, reports the Financial Times. Western countries believe that the Russian Federation can use the supplied goods for military purposes.
According to Russian customs, the export of electronic components from the UAE to Russia in 2022 increased by more than seven times and reached almost $283 million, the newspaper writes, citing the Free Russia Foundation. Also, the UAE exported 15 times more chips to Russia in a year than a year earlier, and the volume of trade in these products increased to $24.3 million compared to $1.6 million in 2021.

According to the newspaper, Western countries are of particular concern about re-export, which allows deliveries of goods through the UAE, bypassing restrictions.
“Our request [к ОАЭ] is that they stop re-exporting [и] recognized that this re-export is problematic,” the Western official said, adding that “discussions [этого вопроса] continue.”
