The Uruguayan team returns to Montevideo and begins to work thinking about Ecuador

Montevideo, Oct 12 (EFE).- The Uruguay team will arrive this Saturday in Montevideo from Lima and will travel from the Carrasco International Airport to the Celeste Complex, where they will begin to work thinking about the duel against Ecuador.

As reported by the Uruguayan Football Association, the squad headed by Marcelo Bielsa will arrive in the country’s capital around 10:00 p.m. local time (1:00 GMT).

Immediately afterwards, the players will begin the concentration regime at the Celeste Complex, where they will train this Sunday.

Next Tuesday, the Uruguayan team will host Ecuador at the historic Centenario stadium in Montevideo for the tenth day of the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

For that match, Bielsa will recover two players who missed the duel against Peru due to being suspended: center back José María Giménez and full back Mathías Olivera.

In fact, it is likely that both will start in a match in which Uruguay will seek to return to the path of victory after three dates without adding three.

On the other hand, four footballers who were called up by Bielsa and who did not travel to Peru will work alongside the rest of the squad: Marco Oroná, Lucas Sanabria, Pablo Suárez and Joaquín Lavega.

This Friday, Uruguay fell 1-0 against Peru in a duel that was decided in the final moments thanks to a goal from center back Miguel Araujo after a great clearance from Piero Quispe.

After the match, the Uruguay coach spoke at a press conference and assured that it was even and practically without goal situations.

“We had more of the ball, but we didn’t create danger. Peru didn’t create danger either, but the feelings they had when they attacked were better than ours. It was a match that should have ended tied,” he concluded.

On the other hand, he pointed out that what happened with Luis Suárez did not influence the game in de la Celeste.

“It didn’t have any influence. I thought the team’s dedication was a very generous dedication, beyond how we played. I think that what happened in the week does not determine it. I don’t link it with how we played nor do I think it had an effect that there was “It’s been a very effervescent week,” said the technical director.

Days ago, Suárez gave an interview to the program ‘De Fútbol Se Habla Así’, in which he accused Bielsa of bad behavior towards players on the squad. EFE
