The University of La Rioja (UR) has organized a program of activities to commemorate the 25N, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. This event, promoted by the Equality and Inclusion Unit and the Vice-Rector’s Office for Corporate Social Responsibility, will take place on campus between November 15 and 22.
The program begins with a Comprehensive Personal Prevention and Self-Protection Course for Women. Taught by Seila Espinosa, world kickboxing champion, and Pablo Fernández, judo black belt, it is aimed at students, university staff and any interested woman. Participation is free.
Among the activities, the representation of the work stands out “Blind”from the group from Logroño Peloponnesia Teatro. This production addresses the issue of gender violence and visual disability. The performances will take place on Wednesday the 20th at 12:30 p.m. and on Friday the 22nd at 3:30 p.m.
The closing of the program will be on Friday the 22nd with the day ‘Getting out of violence: uniting voices’. During this event, the first prize will be awarded to end-of-study projects on equality and gender at the university. The day will include the conference “It is not a taboo. “They are sexual abuse of minors.”by illustrator Laura Strego and journalist Nuria Coronado, as well as round tables with associations and survivors of gender violence.
In the afternoon, at 4:00 p.m., the documentary will be screened ‘Nagore’which tells the case of the student Nagore Laffage, murdered in 2008. After the screening, there will be a discussion with the participation of Asun Casasola, the young woman’s mother.
These activities, open to the public, have the support of the General Subdirectorate of Equality of the Government of La Rioja.
