Lweb influencer Dylan Demers, 25, who dubbed himself the “King of Snapchat,” faces trial for producing and distributing child pornography, computer luring and harassment against four teenage girls, ages 13-17 years.
Last week, the Crown presented evidence which it said shows that the images produced and shared by the influencer are child pornography, with an emphasis on the genitals of underage girls.
Tuesday morning, it was the turn of Montrealer Dylan Demers to take the witness stand.
All dressed in black, the tone serious, he speaks abundantly of his former life as a Web influencer.
To respect his conditions of provisional release, Dylan Demers has not frequented social networks for almost two years.
At the end of 2013, Demers opened like everyone else a Facebook account. Over the months, Dylan Demers records numerous videos that he posts on Facebook, Snapchat, Twitch and Youtube, teaming up with other influencers. “I sell the American dream by showing parties, beautiful tanks, beautiful girls and big houses,” he explains to Judge Sandra Rioux of the Court of Quebec who hears the trial.
By his own admission, a mediocre student, Dylan Demers did not want a traditional job. “I wanted to be my own boss with my ideas, my videos and have my voice,” he explains.
It has come to be followed by 50,000 Internet users, generally between 16 and 25 years old. He made his living mainly by advertising certain products, for about $ 100 per publication. “The more subscribers you have, the more you get paid for advertising,” he says.
