The Practical Handle Neurological Care for Headaches has been updated. Attention is also paid to the treatment of migraine in children. Neurologists and general practitioners should be less reluctant to treat, says Elke Jacobs, pediatric neurologist at the Juliana Children’s Hospital. “An adequate dosage is important. If you give a remedy, do it well.”
The handle was updated during a working conference of the Association of Dutch Headache Centers (VNHC). It reflects the state of affairs in the field of headache care and lists current treatment advice. It is intended as a concrete addition to the applicable guidelines and as a guideline for local treatment protocols. In addition, the handle is available to both neurologists and general practitioners. The handle needed to be updated, says Elke Jacobs. Together with colleague Jikke-Mien Niermeijer, she is responsible for the changes in the handle in the field of migraine care for children. “There are still many uncertainties about the treatment of children with migraine. Some GPs and neurologists have ideas about this that are no longer correct.”
