New compact crossover Volkswagen Taoswhich is a variation of the Chinese model Tharu, will be presented only on October 13th. In the meantime, the company has revealed details about the powertrains with which Taos will enter the US market. The crossover will get a turbo engine 1.5 TSI EA211 Evo series, which operates on Miller’s economy cycle and has a complex turbocharger with variable geometry of the guide vanes. It produces 160 hp. and 249 Nm.
The Taos crossover will be the first model with such an engine in the US market. In the basic front-wheel drive modification, the turbo engine will be paired with an eight-speed “automatic”, and the four-wheel drive versions will be equipped with a seven-speed “robot” DSG with two clutches. The new Taos with a length of 4.4 m will be the most compact SUV in the North American range of the Volkswagen brand. All details will be available soon.
