KOMPAS.com – Actor Leonardo DiCaprio has repeatedly expressed his thanks to actress and producer Sharon Stone.

Leonardo DiCaprio revealed to E! News, the reason he kept thanking Sharon Stone.

Leonardo DiCaprio’s gratitude because Sharon Stone finally paid his salary or honorarium for his acting in 1995.

At that time in 1995, said Leonardo DiCaprio, he had already acted in the film The Quick and the Dead, but the studio refused to include his scenes in the film directed by Sam Raimi.

It is known that at that time, Leonardo DiCaprio had just come out of his breakthrough role which was nominated for an Oscar in the film What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, which was released in 1993.

Sharon Stone was very excited to work with Leonardo DiCaprio who was a young star at that time. Sharon Stone insisted on casting Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe in the film, and she was willing to pay even with her own money.

“He said, ‘These are the two actors I want to work with,’” Leonardo DiCaprio recalled as reported by E! News, Monday (20/11/2023).

“It’s extraordinary. He has become a champion of the world of cinema and given opportunities to other actors, so I am very grateful, I have said thank you many times,” added Leonardo DiCaprio.

Leonardo DiCaprio feels that it is not enough for him to just thank Sharon Stone, perhaps he should repay in more ways.

“I don’t know if I actually sent him a physical thank you gift, but I can’t thank him enough,” said Leonardo DiCaprio.

In the film The Quick and the Dead, Sharon Stone plays a sniper who visits a frontier town and clashes with its leader (Gene Hackman).

In her 2021 memoir, The Beauty of Living Twice, Sharon Stone revealed that she paid Leonardo DiCaprio’s salary herself after studio TriStar Pictures refused to cast him.

“This kid named Leonardo DiCaprio was the only one who aced the audition,” wrote Sharon Stone, adding that she auditioned several teenage actors for the role of The Kid.

“In my opinion, she was the only one who came and cried, begged her father to love her when he died at the scene,” said Sharon Stone.

Sharon Stone remembers the studio telling her, “Why don’t you know, Sharon, why do you always shoot yourself?”

“The studio said if I wanted it badly, I could pay for it out of my own salary. So I did it,” continued Sharon Stone.

Meetings with studios and the decision to pay Leonardo DiCaprio his own salary partly motivated Sharon Stone to become a producer, where he could champion talent he believed deserved the job.

“Getting credit as a producer as an actress in my business was often considered a ‘lost deal,’ meaning they pay you for the job but keep your mouth shut and stay out of it,” wrote Sharon Stone in her memoir.

“I won’t accept a useless deal and let them know first. This is illegal, I say, and I like to work within the law. This creates a lot of silence and not a lot of excitement on the other side,” added Sharon Stone.

Meanwhile, the film The Quick and the Dead opened in 1995 along with other films starring Leonardo DiCaprio such as The Basketball Diaries and Total Eclipse.
