The Untold Story of Jody Foster: Misdiagnosis and the Dangers of Diabetes

Jakarta

A woman in England, Jody Foster (44), went to sleep at night and woke up six weeks later. Apparently because of diabetes, he was in a coma for weeks. What happened?

Over the previous months, Jody had repeatedly complained of not feeling well and went to the toker. Like diabetes patients in general, Jody experiences weight loss, often feels weak and tired, and his vision is sometimes blurry.

However, instead of getting the right diagnosis, the doctor actually suspected that Jody was suffering from an eating disorder. Even though at that time, Jody ate normally and made no effort to lose weight. Jody was also diagnosed with an anxiety disorder and was given medication, but he did not take it.

When he admitted to the doctor that he was often thirsty, the doctor said that this condition was a side effect of anti-anxiety medication.

“This went on for some time. Sometimes my speech was slurred and I forgot everything. It got to the point where I thought, am I going crazy?” said the woman who graduated in psychology at the University of Leeds, quoted from Mirror News UK, Tuesday (12/12/2023).

None of the doctors he met directed Jody to take a urine test to determine whether he had diabetes. His condition got worse, until Jody decided to return to live with his parents. However, instead of improving his condition, he fell into a coma while he was asleep and had to undergo intensive treatment for six weeks.

“I thought, ‘I can handle it’. At least they know I don’t have an eating disorder and I’m not going crazy,” said Jody.

Many people realize that complications caused by diabetes cannot be underestimated. The reason is, high blood sugar causes nerve and blood vessel damage which can cause blindness, cardiovascular and kidney disease, nerve damage and the risk of amputation. However, for Jody, what really shouldn’t be forgotten is the psychological effect of the disease.

“People say, ‘You control diabetes, but diabetes shouldn’t control you’. But that’s easier said than done. But now, over the last year or so, I’m more in control because of the system I use,” he concluded.
