One of the legends of VIS-2 – Dimitar Dimitrov-Maimunyaka – also fell victim to the bloody clashes that broke out. He is the right-hand man of the creator of the three-letter group, Vasil Iliev, from the time when it became an empire, writes “Trud”.

On January 28, 2002, 35-year-old Dimitar went to his girlfriend Nadia Ivanova in the capital’s “Strelbishte” district. For some time he has been nervous and senses the danger. He increased his bodyguards to three, had them accompany him with their weapons drawn.

Around 8:00 p.m., Maimunyaka gets out of his shiny Mercedes and enters the entrance of block 27. Two of his guards walk in front of him, followed by the third. The first guards pass the mailboxes, but when the boss aligns with them, an explosion goes off. It would later become clear that the bomb was 500 grams of TNT equivalent.

The detonation was so violent that a hole was punched in the wall that gaped into the family’s kitchen cupboard on the ground floor. The front door of the block was broken, the windows were broken into pieces, and the glass on the stairs was broken up to the eighth floor of the block.

Part of Dimitrov’s scalp was completely taken off, and many nails were driven into his skull. The guards are wounded, but not seriously, and throw their bare feet into the vehicle. At the Military Hospital, doctors found that Maimunyaka had a severe brain hematoma.

His chances of survival are minimal and after two days he dies without regaining consciousness. The bomb turns out to be hidden in a small box above a mailbox with pipes running through it. Recently, someone put a lid on her. Criminalists are adamant that the attack was planned down to the last detail.

The DIY is made extremely professionally. The device has an electric detonator activated by a remote control, the explosive – reinforced with cut nails. It is triggered the moment the victim reaches the place where the powerful blast was placed. The exact moment of the attack suggests that the killer had a direct line of sight to the entrance.

The investigation went into a loop after several people were suspected who had a motive, but no evidence was ever found. The name of Dimitar Dimitrov is directly related to the founder of the group, Vasil Iliev, with whom they have been inseparable since their student years at the CSKA wrestling school.

Quite logically, Maimunyaka becomes the boss’s right hand. The criminal empire gains its power with the security company VIS-1 and the insurance company VIS-2. It begins with a security racket, illegal importation of stolen cars and oil smuggling during the southern embargo. Dimitrov leads the punitive squads. He is also entrusted with smuggling through the “Captain Andreevo” checkpoint and the car theft brigades.

In the underworld, they claim that his nickname comes from his wrestling years and means cunning like a chimpanzee, huge like an orangutan, agile like a macaque. On April 25, 1995, his closest friend Vasil Iliev died at the hands of assassins. At his funeral, Dimitar carries the cross, and photographers capture the tears streaming down his face.

The new boss, Georgi Iliev, introduces new rules and new people into the VIS empire. The suit-wearing ruffians have been replaced by suit-wearing businessmen who are taking significant shares of the legal profit-making sectors in tourism, trade and real estate.

In 2000, Dimitar Dimitrov has already completely changed – he cleans up his image and brings his business into the light. He is also interested in sports – one of the ways to accumulate millions.

Maimunjaka first sponsored the football team of the metropolitan district “Druzhba” – Iskar and put it in the “B” group. After that, he took up the Pazardzhik “Heber”. When the team was relegated from the elite, Dimitrov re-registered AD in Petrich and withdrew “Belasitsa” to “A” group. Three months before his death, he was already vice president.

He works together with Konstantin Hadjiivanov – Kotse Matsa. The two established several companies, and Dimitar Dimitrov moved his entire business to Petrich and the region. At the same time, he is engaged in business on the sea. Becomes a tenant of the beaches in Pomorie and Sozopol. He also shows appetites for the territories in Sunny Beach. He needs money urgently, and a lot of it.

A month before he died, he also opened the “Irida” disco in Sandanski. In addition, Dimitrov is a partner of Georgi Iliev in “VAI Petroleum” AD, and through the company “Metaltest” he trades in scrap and metal. He knows a lot, he hints at some things publicly. In one of his last interviews, he claimed: “Actually, we, the so-called mutras, are needed only before elections. Then everyone covers themselves.”

In the end, the police do not find the answer to the question of who killed the Monkey. The investigation has been suspended, and the guarantors and perpetrators remain unknown for 21 years.

Dimitar Dimitrov-Maimunyaka becomes another underground boss killed by a bomb. Two sycamores also met their deaths this way. In 1996, an explosion in an elevator tore apart Yordan Markov from Varna, who was the local head of the SIK. He also went to visit his girlfriend and is also guarded.

In 2004 – two years after the attack on Maimunyak, Stoil Slavov was also killed with a bomb. He is one of the big bosses in SIK, and he was brutally killed along with his bodyguards in the elevator of the group’s business building in the Lozenets district, where Intergroup & Partners is headquartered. And these two attacks remain unsolved.
