The unknown fight between Zoi Konstantopoulou and Dora Bakoyannis –

The meeting of the Conference of Presidents last week can be described as stormy, to say the least. At the meeting of the previous Thursday, October 10, as is already known, Zoi Konstantopoulou asked for the floor and raised specific questions to the Speaker of the Parliament regarding the presence of Michalis Hourdakis and the representation of the independent MPs.

In the same meeting, however, there was also a fight between them Zois Konstantopoulou and Dora Bakoyannis against the background of sexism and the struggles for the restoration of Democracy in our country.

During her presentation, the president of Plevsis Eleftheria also referred to the proposal to turn off the microphones in the Parliament when the MPs exceed the allowed time. Ms. Konstantopouloucriticized this proposal saying that this practice involves sexism, “you have implemented a terrifying practice, which is closing the microphones when the Opposition disturbs, closing the microphones, which is applied only to the Opposition and above all to the Freedom Movement and to me personally, as the only female Leader – because it also involves sexism this practice of yours – we have to denounce that it is an anti-democratic practice, a practice of censorship”its president noted, among other things Freedom of Navigation.

Ms. Konstantopoulou’s reports of sexism caused the irritation of Dora Bakoyannis. “For God’s sake!”the former minister reportedly said, asking in turn to speak. Tones rose when Dora Bakoyannis said: “I confess that I find it difficult to understand, every time any disagreement with Ms. Konstantopoulou is translated into sexism. That is, I am a woman, I have fought all my life against sexism, but not every disagreement or every remark towards Ms. Konstantopoulou can be interpreted as a policy against women. Mercy, Mr. President, now! There are some limits. We women have fought too many battles for our equality. If we go to the other extreme, we end up doing injustice to the struggle that we have done.”.

The Tassoula intervention

OR Zoe Konstantopoulou argued that MPs from the ND complain about the way they are treated in the party. “Do you know how many women in your party complain about how you treat them? How many women in your party complain, do you know? Do you have any idea how many are coming to me?’said the president of Freedom of Navigation with Dora Bakoyannis to answer: “Mrs Konstantopoulou, if the women of my party come to you and cry, you can always invite them”.

The fight between the two women continued over the references to fascism and the junta. “Patience has never been within my qualifications and I am not prepared to hear these characterizations of the President of the Hellenic Parliament or the Hellenic Parliament from people who in any case have an opinion about the dictatorship, which some people call a dictatorship older people we have fought in practice. It is no longer possible, Mr. President, for New Democracy to accept this barbarism and it is not possible for us to accept it. These designations have a place within the coffee shop. Within the Hellenic Parliament, words matter and characterizations matter. And these characterizations by the New Democracy are not accepted”said on the part of Dora Bakoyannis.

The tension between the two politicians continued and the speaker of the House had to intervene several times in order to lower the tone, while it was requested that the objections of the two women not be recorded in the minutes. “Come, come! We are a Conference of Presidents, we are not a parliamentary control”said o Konstantinos Tasoulas. Spirits calmed down, for a while at the Conference, when Apostolos Vesyropoulos, president of the Standing Committee of the Parliament, took the floor.
