In total, the seven educational establishments where Covid-19 infection has been detected so far also include Latvian University (LU), opened at the LU Communication and Innovation Department.

The University explains that occupational safety specialists have been mobilized for such cases, who received information from the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (SPKC) in a timely manner and have now taken all necessary safety measures to allow students and lecturers to stay safely at the University of Latvia.
“In this particular case, we are actively cooperating with the SPKC,” explains Cindy Gravere, a spokeswoman for the university. All identified contacts, including both students and faculty, are quarantined. However, the total number of quarantined persons in the educational establishment shall not be disclosed.
At the same time, the necessary changes have been made in the training process to ensure that all these people have the opportunity to continue the training and work process remotely until the end of the prescribed quarantine. The current information indicates that no further cases have occurred.
The University of Latvia has also centralized the transfer of information on Covid-19 patients to the university so that all security measures can be taken as quickly as possible. Students and employees must inform the University of Latvia by calling 26189898 or writing to “[email protected]”, if the SPKC confirms the illness.
Of course, the University of Latvia has direct contact with the SPKC in such cases, but direct communication allows to react more quickly to other information and additional security activities, notes the university.
It has already been reported that the number of Covid-19 cases detected in educational institutions is increasing in Latvia and currently the infected are registered in five schools, as well as in one university and kindergarten.
Also, one of the 34 cases discovered on Monday is related to school, the epidemiologist found. SPKC data show that a total of yesterday Covid-19 was found in five people of school age.
According to the information provided by the expert, in almost all cases only one case of the disease was detected in the whole educational institution, and the infection did not take place in the educational institution itself, however, infected children have been there.
In one case, however, there was an internal spread of the infection, Perevoshchikov noted. He explained that this was a class that had previously been quarantined at home after the Covid-19 case was discovered. This case of infection has come to light as a result of an epidemiological inquiry.
The Department of Education, Culture and Sports of the Riga City Council confirmed that in recent days the disease with Covid-19 has been detected in Rīnūži Secondary School and pre-school educational institution “Blāzmiņa”, both of which are located in Vecmīlgrāvis.
Riga East Secondary School was the first educational institution where Covid-19 was diagnosed this autumn. Later it was revealed that the Covid-19 patient was also diagnosed in Daugavpils Secondary School No. 16.
Last week, an infection with Covid-19 was also revealed to a general education institution teacher and a university student, said Ilze Arāja, a representative of the SPKC.
She said that of the 17 cases of Covid-19 infection newly discovered on Friday, one is a case for a teacher at a general education school in Riga. In this case, the infected contacts are identified, which are within the same class.
