The University Hospital of Guadalajara revalidates its title ‘Active Hospital in SENSAR, Safe Hospital’ for the tenth consecutive year
The University Hospital of Guadalajara, dependent on the Health Service of Castilla-La Mancha (SESCAM), has revalidated for the tenth consecutive year the title that accredits its status as ‘Active Hospital in SENSAR, Safe Hospital’.
The first accreditation of the Guadalajara hospital took place in 2014 by the Spanish Anesthesia and Resuscitation Safety Notification System (SENSAR). This revalidation certifies the work carried out by a group of specialists from the Anesthesiology, Resuscitation and Pain Therapeutics service, highlighting the contributions of doctors Beatriz Amorós Alfonso, Lourdes Muñoz Corsini and Milagros Pretel Merlo.
The objective of this group of specialists is to guarantee patient safety in the perioperative, critical care and pain settings by analyzing incidents reported by colleagues anonymously through a portal designed for this purpose.
The incident communication and analysis system allows learning from errors instead of penalizing them, which results in the development and implementation of corrective measures to avoid future repetitions of incidents or harm to the patient.
In the last year, the team has analyzed 38 reported incidents and 85 corrective measures have been implemented to address factors that could have predisposed their occurrence. Although the incidents have not been serious, the doctors emphasize the importance of this preventive work.
The delivery of the certificate took place during the IV Patient Safety Conference held at the Fundación de Alcorcón University Hospital, origin of the SENSAR initiative in 2003. The event was attended by representatives of hospitals from all over Spain and some South American countries. , all members of SENSAR.
SENSAR is a work network of health professionals that promotes patient safety through learning from mistakes, teaching, disseminating safety culture, innovation and the creation and participation of work networks with collaborators. Their work is aimed at building a safety net for the patient in the perioperative setting.
