White House Press Representative Karina Jeanpierre said the aid package would include Bradley fighting vehicles, armored personnel carriers and self-propelled howitzers.
The online newspaper “Politico” previously reported that the aid package will also include “RIM-7 Sea Sparrow” guided missiles designed to intercept airborne targets.
The aim of the new aid package is to provide Ukraine with as much support as possible during the winter months before early spring, when the intensity of fighting is expected to increase, US officials said earlier.
“Sea Sparrow” is a “ship-to-air” class missile. It is designed to intercept airborne targets.
According to “Politico” information, Ukrainian soldiers will be able to launch these missiles not from ships, but from land platforms.
As the sources explained, the “Buk” platforms of the anti-aircraft defense complex, developed in the days of the USSR, were adapted for the launch of the “Sea Sparrow”.
The US Navy does not disclose data on how far the Sea Sparrow can travel, but experts say the new version of the missile is capable of traveling up to four times the speed of sound, hitting aircraft and missiles at a range of 50 kilometers.
So far, “Sea Sparrow” has been used as an element of the land air defense system only by Taiwan, which received such missiles in the early 90s.
