The United States will have their pre-GP championship – GP Inside

La Dorna, MotoAmerica and Rise Moto are launching the North America Talent Cup, a competition reserved for young riders from the United States and under the Road to MotoGP banner. Objective: to create another bridge between the American continent and the environment of the motorcycle Grand Prix.

The return of the Americans to Grand Prix continues. After a few years of almost total absence from the starting grid, the native pilots of the United States are gradually setting foot in the world championship. There will be three in Moto2 in 2022: Joe Roberts, Cameron Beaubier and Sean Dylan Kelly. And from next year, a competition exclusively organized in the United States will strengthen the gateway to access the Grands Prix: the North America Talent Cup.

The principle will be the same as for the Northern Talent Cup, the British Talent Cup, or the Asia Talent Cup: a championship dedicated to young riders from a particular geographical area, so that they can train themselves in motorcycle racing. detect and open the way to the world championship. These competitions are also brought together under the Road to MotoGP banner, for “Road to MotoGP”.

The North America Talent Cup is the result of the collaboration between Dorna, MotoAmerica (which notably organizes the national Superbike championship) and Rise Moto. The riders will all ride Aprilia RS 250 SP2s fitted with Dunlop tires, while helmets will be supplied by KYT. The first two of the season will automatically be eligible for selection for the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup, a pre-GP competition organized in Europe.

The first event will take place on the weekend of April 10 in Austin, at the same time as the Grand Prix of the Americas. The rest of the program has yet to be defined, but it has already been established that the final will take place at Barber Motorsports Park, near Birmingham, on the weekend of September 25, during the MotoAmerica championship round.

20 pilots will be accepted in 2022, with the possibility of going up to 26 in 2023. It will be necessary to be 13 to 16 years old for the first season, because following the new measures, the minimum age will increase to 14 years in 2023. The applications will be open from December 1 to 31 on www.northamericatalentcup.com.
