CHICAGO (October 4, 2024) – The U-20 Men’s National Team will travel to Chile, host of the FIFA U-20 World Cup, for friendly matches on October 12 and 15 during a training camp in Santiago on October 7 to October 15. . Both matches will be played at the Quilín Sports Complex, Chile’s national training center.

First camp since qualifying

This October marks the first training camp for the U-20 after the team successfully qualified for the World Cup at this summer’s CONCACAF U-20 Championship and finished as runners-up after a narrow overtime loss to Mexico in the final. 11 players from that squad were called up to Chile: Noah Cobb, Julian Eyestone, Taha Habrun, Ethan Koehler, Nolan Norris, Sergio Oregal Jr., Brooklyn Raines, Ruben Ramos Jr., Pedro Soma, Nico Tzagris and Marcos Zambrano.

Ramos Jr. and Zambrano each scored two goals for the United States in Mexico, while Habrun, Koehler and Raines also added goals. Ramos Jr. clinched the United States’ ticket to the World Cup in a 1-0 quarterfinal victory over Guatemala, while Reigns won 2-1 in the semifinals against Panama.

World Championship Experience

Many players have already represented the United States on some of the game’s biggest stages. Midfielder Benjamin Gremachi is the youngest player on the U.S. team in this summer’s Olympic men’s soccer tournament. He appeared in two matches as the United States advanced from the group stage for the second time since the current format was introduced in 1960.

Midfielder Niko Tsagiris and defender Joshua Winder were part of the US squad for the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Argentina. The pair helped the United States reach the quarterfinals before falling to eventual champion Uruguay, becoming the only nation to reach the quarterfinals in the last four tournaments.

Five players represented the United States at the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Indonesia, leading the United States to the knockout stages before a narrow loss to eventual champion Germany: Nohkai Banks, Taha Habrun, Peyton Miller, Pedro Soma and Oscar Verhoeven.

Additional notes

  • This is the fourth training camp for 2005, following the U-19 camps in March and June, and the Concacaf U-20 Championship. Six players have appeared in all four camps: Taha Habrun, Ethan Koehler, Nolan Norris, Sergio Oregal Jr., Pedro Soma and Marcos Zambrano.
  • Five of the eight foreign players developed in American academies. Julian Eyestone (FC Dallas), Koehler (San Jose Earthquakes) and Zambrano (Philadelphia Union) spent time at three MLS clubs, while Joshua Winder played for Louisville City FC in the USL Championship.
  • Players born in 2007, Peyton Miller and Ruben Ramos Jr., are age-eligible for the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
  • The players come from 12 states, led by five from California and two from Florida, Illinois and Texas.
  • Midfielder Benjamin Gremachi lifted the Supporters’ Shield with Inter Miami CF on October 2 as his club topped the regular season standings.
  • Forward Rubén Ramos Jr. has scored in three of his last four games with Ventura County FC in MLS Next Pro, most recently against St. Louis City 2 on September 29.
  • Midfielder Niko Tsakiris had his first assist of the season for the San Jose Earthquakes on October 2 against FC Dallas.
