WASHINGTON, KOMPAS.TV – The United States (US) has stated that it will not participate in the G20 meeting which Russia will participate in. This is as US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said, Wednesday (6/4/2022).

As report CNNYellen who spoke at House Financial Services Committee The US Congress, said he had explained the position to other finance ministers in the G20.

“President Biden made clear, and I certainly agree with him, that it cannot be business as usual for Russia at any financial institution,” Yellen said.

“He asked for Russia to be removed from the G20 and I have made it clear to my Indonesian counterparts that we would not participate in a number of meetings if Russia was there.”

It is not clear whether this means that the United States will remain present but not participate in the meeting attended by Russia, or that the United States as a whole will not attend the G20 Summit which will be held in November in Bali, Indonesia.

Biden said during a news conference in Brussels, Belgium last month, Russia should be excluded from the G20, but there needs to be an agreement among other members to formalize the move.

The next summit of G20 leaders will be held in November in Indonesia. There was a ministerial meeting before that meeting.
