The United States is resuming production of nuclear warheads amid threats from Moscow.

The Kremlin’s threats had an effect. For the first time since the collapse of the Soviet Union, the United States has restored large-scale production of nuclear warheads. A massive refurbishment has begun.

NNSA has released its FY 2023 work plan. It talked about the rebuilding of US nuclear security facilities, as well as the production of 80 plutonium cores, which are a key element of strategic and tactical warheads and bombs in the US nuclear arsenal.

The Americans also confirmed plans to produce the first W80-4 – two-stage thermonuclear warheads of low and medium yields of 5 and 150 kilotons of TNT. US nuclear scientists will work on upgrading and extending the life of warheads B61-12 (LEP), W88 Alteration 370, W87-1.

In general, the Americans are carrying out a large-scale program to rearm their nuclear triad in the amount of $634 billion. It will last, according to plans, until 2031.

Note that America abandoned the large-scale production of plutonium charges shortly before the collapse of the USSR – in 1989. However, the increased threats from Moscow forced the Americans to change their policy on this issue.

Soon the United States and Moscow agreed to reduce their nuclear arsenals by signing the Strategic Offensive Arms Treaty. The document set the limit of warheads that the country could have in service – 6,000 units.

It should be noted that the Kremlin, having unleashed an aggressive war against Ukraine, very actively began to scare the world with a nuclear war. Moreover, on the anniversary of the aggression, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin even announced the country’s withdrawal from the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, and soon announced the deployment of nuclear warheads on the territory of Belarus.
