US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo spoke about the implementation of the American plan for the resignation of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro from his ruling post. It is reported by Caracol.
It is noted that the head of the State Department, speaking about the effectiveness of Washington’s current strategy with regard to Caracas, recalled the experience of fighting the USSR. “I remember how [Джеймс] Baker, a former US secretary of state, said that before the collapse of the Soviet Union, no one believed that the strategy worked. But it worked, ”said Pompeo.
According to him, the current goal of Washington is to achieve the resignation of the incumbent president of Venezuela Maduro, after which to ensure the holding of free elections there. Pompeo also mentioned a meeting with local opposition leader and parliament speaker Juan Guiado, who spoke about the terrorist threat to his country.
