Will world skating go under the American flag? A few weeks before the elective congress of the International Skating Union (ISU), scheduled for June 6 to 10 in Phuket, Thailand, the United States announced via a press release its intention to propose a candidate for the presidential post. The Board of Directors of the American Federation (US Figure Skating) has unanimously approved the nomination of Patricia St. Peter (pictured above) as a candidate for President of the ISU. Former skater, then coach and leader, she chaired the American Figure Skating Federation between 2009 and 2015. Patricia St. Peter has been a member of the ISU Council since 2016. She has practiced for more than 30 years as a lawyer . The American is the first leader to officially announce her candidacy for the presidency of the ISU. But it shouldn’t be the last. The current president of the body, the Dutchman Jan Dijkema, has decided to return his keys. At the end of last January, he confided his decision not to seek a new mandate. “I will be 78 this yearhe explained to the German agency SID. I was asked to extend, but I think my time has come. I have been an ice sports official for 30 years.”
