The United States Opposes Israeli Military Reoccupation of Gaza Strip: White House

The White House said on Tuesday that the United States would oppose the Israeli military’s post-conflict reoccupation of the Gaza Strip.

White House National Security Spokesman John Kirby said that Israel and the United States are friends and do not have to agree on every issue, Reuters reported.

Kirby stressed that “Hamas cannot be part of the equation regarding the form of government in Gaza.”

He added, “President Biden personally engaged in talks to bring in humanitarian aid and remove some hostages from Gaza.”

He continued, saying: “We continue to work to reach a temporary ceasefire for humanitarian reasons.”

He concluded his statements by saying: “We stress the need to respect the two-state solution, and we will ensure that Israel gets what it needs to defend itself.”

Earlier on Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel would bear “full security responsibility” in the Gaza Strip for an indefinite period after its war with Hamas.

He also expressed openness to “short pauses” in the current fighting in order to facilitate the release of hostages.
