Exports of Bordeaux wines are on the rise again in 2021 with a “spectacular recovery” of marketing with the United States, according to the Bordeaux Wine Interprofessional Council (CIVB).
With 33 million bottles exported and a 67% increase in turnover – or 349 million euros – the marketing of Bordeaux wines in the United States had never reached such a high level since 1985.
A recovery helped by the suspension of American taxes
This increase is partly linked to the suspension, in March, of the 25% tax introduced by Donald Trump in retaliation for the trade dispute around the aircraft manufacturers Boeing and Airbus.
Overall, despite a persistent health crisis, exports from Bordeaux (45% of marketing) increased by 30% in 2021, to 2.3 billion euros.

Good health due to “historic” customers: China, Belgium, Japan which is now ahead of Germany, United Kingdom, Canada, Switzerland.
But “less traditional destinations such as the Ivory Coast or South Korea are also showing interest in our wines”, underlined the CIVB in its annual report.
