The US State Department on Monday called on US citizens to leave Belarus immediately.
“U.S. citizens in Belarus must leave immediately by commercial or private means,” the State Department said.
The statement acknowledged that the situation in Belarus was “unpredictable” given Russia’s unusual military activity on the Ukrainian border.
Previously, the US government only advised its citizens to regularly consider the possibility of an emergency to leave Belarus.
However, Washington did not recommend travel to Belarus in the past, acknowledging that it is the fourth or highest risk.
