TOKYO – Muneo Suzuki, a member of Japan’s upper house who is also chairman of the new Daichi Party, urged the United States (US) to state honestly that atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki at the end of WWII it was a mistake.

“Even though it has been 77 years since the end of the war, the United States that dropped the atomic bomb has never apologized or begged for mercy,” Suzuki said on his personal website.

“It is the United States speaking loudly about ‘democracy, human rights and freedoms’ regarding the actions of other countries. So why not tell Japan and the world honestly what the United States has done?” He continued.

The call was made commenting on Japanese media reports of US President Joe Biden’s possible visit to Nagasaki in May 2023.

The deputy believes that Biden’s visit to the city bombed by the Americans will be the right decision.

“On occasion [kunjungan]and [Biden] he had to say what he really meant. I would like him to tell the world, not to mention Nagasaki and Hiroshima, the following: ‘Use [senjata nuklir] impossible; the use of the atomic bomb was a mistake,” he said SputnikThursday (22/12/2022).

Japan will lead the G7 multilateral platform in 2023. The top-level G7 summit will be held in Hiroshima from 19 to 21 May 2023. The G7 is the group of seven largest economies that includes Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Japanese media reported earlier this week that Biden is expected to visit the city of Nagasaki during his trip to the G7 leaders’ summit in Japan in May 2023.
