Sanctions have been applied to Kremlin confidant Vladimir Potanin, the US Treasury Department and State Department announced on Thursday.
Britain and Canada also imposed sanctions on Potanin.
Sanctions against Rosbank and other institutions linked to Russia’s financial sector have been imposed as the United States seeks to further limit Moscow’s ability to finance war in Ukraine, the US Treasury Department announced.
The Treasury Department has sanctioned 18 entities linked to Russia’s financial sector, and the State Department has sanctioned Potanin, his network and more than 40 people linked to the Russian government.
“In addition to imposing sanctions on major Russian banks, we continue to deepen Russia’s isolation from global markets,” the US Treasury Department official said.
Interros, a holding controlled by Potanin, this year bought the Russian commercial bank “Rosbank” from the Société Générale group.
