The United States has confirmed for the first time that it has helped its citizens escape from Afghanistan to a neighboring country by land, world agencies reported.
A family of four, including three children, “has successfully left Afghanistan by land.” The Americans were greeted by staff of the American embassy at the border, said today an employee of the administration of President Joe Biden, informs BTA.
He did not disclose details of the evacuation, nor the country to which the evacuees went, citing security concerns and the need to maintain the usability of the route for possible future operations. However, the source said that the Taliban, who took power in Afghanistan in the middle of last month, were notified of the evacuation and did not thwart it.
U.S. Congressman Ronnie Jackson has revealed that the four were evacuated from his constituency. He said the Americans had been deported from Afghanistan in two weeks and after numerous threats to their lives.
This is the first time that the United States has confirmed that it has evacuated Afghanistan by land since completing its evacuation operations last week following the final withdrawal of US troops on August 31.
Last month, about 124,000 people were evacuated from Afghanistan via an “air bridge” from the capital’s Kabul airport.
